Record-Breaking Achievement: ICF Chennai Produces 3,000 Coaches, Including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat, in FY25

Indian Railways has made significant progress in the production of passenger coaches, marking a notable milestone with the creation of over 3,000 new coaches at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. This achievement is part of their FY25 production goals, with 3,007 coaches rolled out, a rise from last year’s 2,829.

A significant portion of this year’s production includes 1,169 advanced Distributed Power Rolling Stock (DPRS) coaches, featuring models like the Vande Bharat Sleeper and Chair Car. The remaining 1,838 belong to the LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) category.

One standout achievement is the introduction of the first-ever 16-car Vande Bharat Sleeper rake. This development aims to enhance passenger comfort and will be launched within this financial year. Additionally, ICF has innovatively produced eight Treasury Van coaches for the first time in its history, showcasing its commitment to expanding operational capabilities.

Another noteworthy project is the 12-car Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, designed specifically for improved inter-city travel. This train is a compact version of the Vande Bharat Express and aims to enhance the commuting experience for travelers in suburban and regional areas.

ICF has also increased its production of Vande Bharat trains, with 21 new rakes manufactured. Currently, 136 Vande Bharat Express trains are running across various routes, enjoying full occupancy. Since its launch on February 15, 2019, the Vande Bharat Express has become the fastest train in India, leading the pack ahead of Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express.

In line with passenger needs, four rakes of 22 coaches were tailored for the Amrit Bharat 2.0 initiative, aiming to elevate the long-distance travel experience with enhanced facilities.
