Reinaldo Rodrigues Soars to Victory: Wins Big 12 Outdoor Long Jump Championship with University of Arizona Athletics

Lawrence, Kansas – Reinaldo Rodrigues, a senior from Arizona Track and Field, achieved something special by winning the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the long jump. His winning leap was an impressive 7.64m (25-0). This win marks a significant milestone, being the first-ever Big 12 Outdoor Championship for the program.

Rodrigues had previously finished ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he earned Second-Team All-American recognition. He received a warm reception from teammates as he celebrated his remarkable achievement.

Other standout performances included Zach Landa, who placed third in the Shot Put with a throw of 19.88m (65-2). Mackenna Orie also impressed, finishing fourth in the Shot Put at 16.20m (53-1). Jenica Bosko made headlines by moving from last to sixth place in the long jump on her final attempt, landing at 6.36m (21-0). Tapenisa Havea earned her first points of the weekend by finishing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 16.06m (52-8).

In the hurdle events, junior Zach Extine ran a solid 13.90 to secure second overall and qualify for the finals. Meanwhile, sophomore Ava Simms won her heat in the women’s 400m with a time of 53.17, advancing to the final.

Several other Wildcats also showcased their skills. In the men’s 100m, senior Tyson Tippett (10.40), junior James Onanubosi (10.49), and junior Brian Limage (10.50) all qualified for the finals. McKenna Watson sprinted to an 11.70 in the women’s 100m, also making it through to the final.
