Revitalized Randolph Food Pantry Receives $200,000 Boost for Comprehensive Food Accessibility Makeover

The Friendly Food Pantry in Randolph is gearing up for a major upgrade. This renovation aims to enhance food access and create a better experience for those who rely on its services.

Thanks to a partnership with the South Shore Food Bank, the pantry is set to receive significant support. The South Shore Food Bank’s mission is to improve access to fresh food and strengthen the food security network across the region. They will manage the funding from a $200,000 grant provided through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Brian Howard, the Town Manager of Randolph, emphasized the importance of this initiative. "This investment goes beyond simply upgrading facilities. It’s about building a stronger support system for our community," he said.

The Friendly Food Pantry, which is run entirely by volunteers, has always been a lifeline for many residents. In the past year, they served an unprecedented number of families. Debbie Batson, the Executive Director of the pantry, expressed gratitude for the support that has helped them during challenging times.

The statistics surrounding food insecurity in Massachusetts are alarming. The Greater Boston Food Bank revealed that nearly 2 million adults in the state face food insecurity, with 1 in 3 households with children experiencing similar issues in 2023. This means many kids go hungry or skip meals.

Debbie Batson hopes that the renovations will create a welcoming space that honors the dignity of every visitor. Pam Denholm, Executive Director of the South Shore Food Bank, looks forward to partnering with the Randolph community. She believes this project aligns perfectly with their goal of equitable food access.

The Friendly Food Pantry has been supporting the community since 2009, helping over 1,000 residents each year. As they expand their services and hours, they aim to provide not just food but also hope and dignity to those in need.
