JumpStart, a local company known for its smart coffee machines, has teamed up with Indonesian designer Hian Tjen to create a special version of their capsule coffee maker, called the Never Ordinary Device (NOD). This limited-edition machine makes it easy to brew coffee and other beverages by simply inserting a capsule and tapping the device or using a mobile app.

The standout feature of this edition is its stylish leather sleeve, adorned with a monogram of the designer’s initials and inspired by coffee beans. Hian explained, “For the sleeve pattern, I used coffee bean elements to form the letters ‘H’ and ‘N’. It reflects our creative partnership.”
Hian, who has been running his luxury fashion brand since 2008, has designed the sleeve in three colors: a sleek Silver, a playful Pink, and a rich Dark Brown. Each version is meant to appeal to those who appreciate both style and quality.
During the launch event, Hian also displayed a stunning dress made entirely from used NOD coffee capsules, showcasing his dedication to sustainability. He emphasized, “We live in an era where beauty and sustainability should go hand in hand. This collaboration reminds us that even waste can become something beautiful.”
Raynald Rabindra Soeharto, JumpStart’s chief marketing officer, mentioned that the limited-edition NOD is available at their outlet in Summarecon Mall Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
This collaboration speaks volumes about the growing trend of merging fashion with sustainability. Recent research by McKinsey found that 67% of consumers consider sustainability when making purchases. As eco-friendly choices become increasingly important, brands like JumpStart and Hian Tjen are leading the way by creating products that are both stylish and responsible.
In the world of luxury fashion, sustainability is not just a buzzword but a significant shift. Brands are exploring how to use waste materials creatively, which mirrors what Hian did with the coffee capsule dress. This innovative approach taps into consumer desires for unique products and an eco-conscious lifestyle.
JumpStart’s partnership with Hian could inspire other companies to think creatively about sustainability in their product designs, making this limited edition a potential game-changer in consumer habits.
