Rich Bisaccia Resigns as Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator: What This Means for the Team’s Future

Rich Bisaccia has officially stepped down from his role as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. This news was shared by head coach Matt LaFleur on Tuesday.

LaFleur expressed his disappointment but also his understanding: “Rich has been an invaluable asset to me and the entire coaching staff. His impact on our players and team culture is profound. We are grateful for his contributions over the past four years and wish him and his family the best.”

Bisaccia joined the Packers as the special teams coordinator on February 8, 2022, and became the assistant head coach in March 2023. Under his guidance, the Packers ranked seventh in the league for field-position margin, with notable finishes in 2023 and 2024. The team excelled in kickoff returns, scoring among the top two teams in the NFL for returns of over 30 yards, marking their best four-year run since 2000.

Reflecting on his time with the Packers, Bisaccia said, “After careful consideration, I’ve decided to step down. I’m grateful to those who trusted and supported me, including Coach LaFleur and the players. This organization is special, and I thank the community for their passion for the team.”

In 2025, punter Daniel Whelan made headlines, breaking franchise records for gross and net punting averages. His performance not only led the league but also ranked him among the best in NFL history for single-season averages.

Additionally, Bisaccia played a vital role in developing cornerback Keisean Nixon. In 2023, Nixon topped the league in kickoff return yards and averages, earning All-Pro honors for the second consecutive year—an impressive feat matched by only a few players in history. Nixon’s performance represented both individual and team success, cementing his place in Packers history.

As the Packers look ahead, Bisaccia’s departure marks a significant moment for the team. His coaching influence has left an indelible mark on the organization and its players, contributing to a strong foundation as they move into the future.
