CNN reports that A$AP Rocky jumped into Rihanna’s arms after being acquitted of assault charges last Tuesday. She shared her excitement on social media following the verdict.
A California jury found A$AP Rocky not guilty of two felony counts related to a shooting incident in 2021 involving a former friend in Los Angeles. Rihanna expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “The Glory belongs to God and God alone. Thankful, humbled by his mercy!”
The couple shares two young sons, RZA, who is 2, and Riot, who is 1. Rihanna had brought them to the trial in support of A$AP Rocky.
In a recent interview with Interview magazine, Rihanna revealed that their romance began as a friendship. They first connected while working on a remix of her song “Cockiness (Love It)” in 2011.
Their friendship developed further when A$AP Rocky famously grabbed her backside during a live performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Although her team was worried about the incident, Rihanna instead chose to co-star in his music video “Fashion Killa,” solidifying their bond.
Rihanna noted that they shared similar tastes in fashion and creativity, leading them to support each other’s ventures. She explained, “We saw fashion the same. We ended up in the same circles a lot.”
The pair transitioned from friends to something more toward the end of 2019, with their relationship growing during the pandemic. Rihanna said, “COVID sped up our relationship, which I felt like God knew we needed because we were going to start a family.”
Reflecting on their journey, she added that without the pandemic, they might have taken longer to feel ready for a deeper commitment.
After the verdict, A$AP Rocky shared a message on X saying, “Don’t Be Dumb,” referencing his upcoming album.
