Russell Brand recently sparked controversy on “The Megyn Kelly Show” when he confessed to sleeping with a 16-year-old girl while he was 30. He acknowledged that the age of consent in the UK is 16, but also remarked that his actions were “exploitative.” He expressed gratitude to Megyn Kelly for allowing him to address the anger surrounding his past, which he described as entirely reasonable.
Brand stated, “At that time, I was a much different person. I was an immature 30-year-old.” He reflected on the implications of relationships between individuals with significant power differences, saying, “I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and did not consider how it affected others.”
In recent developments, Brand faces serious legal challenges. In April 2025, he was charged with rape and sexual assault involving four women between 1999 and 2005. By December of the same year, additional charges related to incidents from 2009 were added. He has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
Originally set for trial at London’s Southwark Crown Court on June 16, the date has now been moved to October 12.

A survey by the UK’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) revealed that nearly 1 in 4 young people feel pressured into sexual situations due to unequal power dynamics, highlighting that these issues extend far beyond high-profile cases.
