Dr. David Jones, a passionate scientist and conservationist, will be taking the stage at the GO Diving Show this March. He’ll introduce three promising young researchers from the University of Portsmouth who are making strides in marine conservation.
Kelsey-Marie Cadd will discuss her work creating artificial habitats for spiny and short-snouted seahorses. These habitats aim to help the seahorse populations thrive, stabilize the sediment, and encourage the growth of seagrass.
Joe Sargent will shed light on the decline of kelp reefs around the Isle of Wight. He’ll explore potential reasons for this degradation and the rise of other seaweed species in the area.
Georgia Sharpe-Harris will share insights about the unique broadleaf forests found in UK estuaries. These habitats resemble tropical mangroves and understanding them better is crucial for their protection.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can meet all three researchers at the Just One Ocean marine biology zone (stand 1051), where they’ll also have interactive displays and equipment to explore.
Dr. Jones has shared his knowledge at GO Diving Shows in the past. He dedicates his efforts to ocean preservation through his charity, Just One Ocean, which focuses on science, education, and support for innovative marine research projects.
The GO Diving Show, the UK’s only consumer dive and travel show, returns to the NAEC Stoneleigh on March 1-2, 2025. This event is geared up to kick off the diving season with a variety of educational and fun activities.
Headlining the Main Stage is TV star and adventurer Steve Backshall. He’ll be joined by industry experts, including NASA-trained aquanaut Dawn Kernagis, popular presenter Monty Halls, and marine archaeologist Dr. Timmy Gambin. They’ll share exciting stories from their diving expeditions and discuss maritime heritage.
Attendees can also enjoy hands-on activities, such as the try dive pool, virtual reality dives, and workshops on breath-hold techniques and wreck mapping, courtesy of the Nautical Archaeology Society.
This year features the NoTanx Zero2Hero competition for aspiring freedivers. Participants will receive training in London, with finalists competing at the show for a chance to win a trip to Marsa Shagra Eco-Village.
