Director Masahiro Sakurai recently shared some exciting details about the theme song for Kirby Air Riders. In a new interview on Nintendo’s site, he revealed that he wrote the lyrics himself. He explained why he kept this a secret for so long. Sakurai feels that creations shouldn’t be tied to one person. “I want the world of Kirby Air Riders to be enjoyed for what it is, not just because I made it,” he noted.
In the interview, he emphasized the theme song’s dual meaning. “On the surface, it celebrates the joy of being with machines, but deep down, it reflects Zorah’s yearning for freedom,” he said. This complexity makes the song special, as it conveys layers of emotions.
Sakurai collaborated with composer Iwadare, who sent him three different versions of the theme. He decided to use the third version to create a ballad that emphasized Zorah’s story. “It was a challenge to weave these elements together, but I wanted to explore something new in songwriting,” he remarked.
This isn’t just about the music. Sakurai also shared insights into his approach for the entire soundtrack. He aims for children to be able to sing along easily, making the game more enjoyable for young players.
