Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost have been married for five years, but their romance almost didn’t happen. After their first date in 2017, Colin wasn’t sure if Scarlett wanted to see him again.
Scarlett shared her thoughts during a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends. She admitted, “Honestly, nobody ever asked me out really before.” This wasn’t her first time at love; she was previously married to Ryan Reynolds and Romain Dauriac, with whom she has a daughter named Rose.
“I was a serial monogamist,” she confessed, noting that she often didn’t experience the usual dating rituals. Jost, however, changed that. He asked her out on a dinner date at a cozy Italian restaurant in New York’s East Village.
“It was a lovely date,” she recalled, but after dinner, Jost suggested they join his friends for drinks. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Scarlett declined and went home after just 90 minutes. “I hadn’t dated basically ever,” she said, explaining her nervousness.
Afterward, she rushed home to relieve her babysitter. Intrigued, her babysitter asked, “Why are you home?” Scarlett felt flustered but still had fond memories of the date.
Interestingly, Jost thought Scarlett was acting distant and didn’t believe she was interested in him. “Later, he was like, ‘I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird,’” Scarlett recounted. But Jost had secretly admired Scarlett since meeting her on the SNL set in 2006. He wrote in his memoir, A Very Punchable Face, that she was “beautiful, smart, sweet, and intimidatingly sophisticated.”
Their journey together has seen them grow closer over time. They got engaged in 2019 and tied the knot in a private ceremony in October 2020.
Scarlett also reflected on her past dating experiences. She once went on a blind date that didn’t go well. “There were many weird things that happened,” she said. In a humorous twist, she added that she might have left that date without saying goodbye, wishing the guy well in finding his future partner.
It’s clear that behind their glamorous lifestyles, both Scarlett and Colin have navigated the sometimes tricky landscape of dating. Their story reminds us that even celebrities face the butterflies and jitters of first dates.
For those interested in relationship dynamics, a recent survey found that 68% of people feel anxious about first dates, whether you’re famous or just starting out in the dating scene. Scarlett and Colin’s story highlights that vulnerability is universal, creating a genuine connection, even when the odds seem stacked against you.
