Schuylkill Technology Centers (STC) is set to receive $81,098 from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This funding will boost their career and technical education programs.
The announcement was made by Rep. Tim Twardzik and Sen. David Argall. They highlighted how crucial it is to invest in training for skilled trades. This funding is part of a larger initiative, giving over $4.5 million to 58 career and technical centers across Pennsylvania.
STC has two locations in Schuylkill County—one in West Mahanoy Township and another in Norwegian Township. With this grant, STC will upgrade and buy new equipment for its programs. This means students can gain hands-on experience that meets local job market needs.
Twardzik stated, “This investment in career and technical education is an investment in the future.” His goal is to give students the skills they need to thrive in their careers while boosting the local economy.
Argall added that there is a strong demand for skilled workers in Pennsylvania. He expressed pride in supporting funding for programs at STC during the state budget discussions.
New Equipment for Key Programs
The grant will fund equipment for several essential programs at STC:

Electro-Mechanical Technology Program: $4,124 will purchase a Learn Lab Motor Control Trainer. This will help students understand motor controls and system troubleshooting.

Welding Program: $16,257 is allocated to buy bandsaws for training on precise metal-cutting techniques.

Automotive Program: Two major purchases will include a Consulab Advanced Electronics Trainer ($25,445) for electrical troubleshooting and a Tritan Certification Kit ($35,272) for student training with diagnostic tools.
