“Scream 7” has made a strong entrance at the box office, pulling in $28.8 million on its opening Friday. This easily outpaced last week’s box office leader, “Wuthering Heights.” Paramount and Spyglass expect the film to earn around $60 million over the weekend, which would break records for the franchise.
In this installment, Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, who moves to the quiet town of Pine Grove with her daughter. However, their peace is shattered as Ghostface shows up. Alongside Campbell, fans will see familiar faces like Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard, along with newcomers such as Isabel May and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Getting “Scream 7” made wasn’t without challenges. The project faced several hurdles, including the departure of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Moreover, Kevin Williamson, the original writer, stepped in to direct after Christopher Landon left the project. The budget also took a hit, as Campbell had to be lured back with a $7 million deal after nearly missing out on “Scream 6” due to a pay dispute.
Looking at competition, Sony’s animated film “GOAT” came in second, earning $2.6 million on Friday. This story of animal athletes might make around $11.7 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, “Wuthering Heights” fetched an estimated $2.2 million on its third Friday, aiming for a total of $72 million domestically.
Concert films are also making waves. “Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined” grossed around $2.1 million on Friday from just 770 theaters. This film captures a massive concert in Mexico City, projected to earn about $3.5 million by Sunday.
In fifth place, “Crime 101” struggled with only $920,107, aiming for a weekend total of $3.34 million.
With the film industry constantly changing, audiences are eager to see how “Scream 7” performs in the coming weeks. As horror fans share their excitement on social media, it’s clear that the franchise remains a beloved part of pop culture.
