Recently, Sergey Brin, one of Google’s co-founders, expressed that the company has a chance to lead in artificial general intelligence, which means machines could think and learn like humans. He believes this can happen if employees put in more effort.

In an internal memo shared with staff, he encouraged a work schedule of at least 60 hours a week, ideally being in the office every weekday. This message was specifically for those involved in Gemini, Google’s set of A.I. projects.

Brin’s memo didn’t change the official office policy: Google staff must come in at least three days a week. A representative for Google chose not to comment further.

Brin’s comments reveal his strong belief that achieving A.G.I. is closer than ever. He noted that competition in the field has intensified. “We have all the ingredients to win this race,” he wrote, urging a faster pace in their efforts.

This ambition reflects the growing urgency in the tech world for breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, and Google seems keen on being at the forefront of this evolution.
