Should the Vikings Re-Sign Cam Bynum? Share Your Thoughts!

The Minnesota Vikings made a move this Thursday by extending Theo Jackson’s contract for two years at $12.6 million. Josh Metellus is also coming back for the second year of his extension, which he signed last offseason. If he meets his playing-time goals, his salary will be similar to Jackson’s. Last season, only three defensive players logged more snaps than Metellus.

This situation raises questions about two of the players who played more than Metellus. Camryn Bynum is heading to free agency, and Harrison Smith might be considering retirement. There will be lots of speculation about Smith when the news is official.

Bynum’s situation is particularly intriguing. He’s ranked as one of the top free agents for 2025, with a projected market value of three years at $53.2 million. This would place him among the highest-paid safeties in the league. However, it’s hard to imagine GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah going for such a hefty contract. The Vikings tried to extend Bynum last offseason, but those discussions didn’t go anywhere. It seems like a case where business and sports clash.

As for Smith, there’s pressure with a deadline coming up on March 14. After that date, his salary for 2026 becomes fully guaranteed. If he waits to make a decision, Bynum’s fate might already be sealed. NFL Free Agency kicks off on March 12 at 3 PM CST.
