Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Boosts Keystone Opportunity Center with Generous Donations

Souderton recently took part in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) 32nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the largest single-day food collection in the U.S. This initiative saw local letter carriers gather non-perishable food donations from residents, delivering them to community food pantries like the Keystone Opportunity Center.

Keystone Opportunity Center plays a crucial role in the region, helping over 5,000 people each year in Montgomery and Bucks counties. Volunteers from Keystone sorted the donated food, ensuring it reaches those in need. This drive came at a vital moment as food banks face challenges from funding cuts and an upcoming increase in demand during the summer months.

Clarice Foster, the food pantry manager at Keystone, expressed gratitude for the dedicated volunteers from the local post office. “Thanks to their efforts, we collected 2,979 pounds of food. Their commitment helps us support over 250 families each month,” she said.

The Stamp Out Hunger initiative has made a significant impact since it began in 1993, collecting more than 1.9 billion pounds of food nationwide. It is a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Postal Service, local charities, and organizations like United Way and the AFL-CIO.

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue. A recent report from Feeding America highlights that 1 in 8 Americans faces hunger. The summer months can be especially tough for families, as school meal programs pause, highlighting the importance of community efforts like the Stamp Out Hunger drive.
