Stay Informed: What to Do If You Missed the WVU Alert Test

A test of the WVU Alert system took place on Monday, September 8. If you didn’t receive a text or email during the test, please visit alert.wvu.edu to update your contact info.

Faculty and staff need to register for the emergency messaging system. Students are automatically included through their MIX email but should add their phone numbers if they haven’t done so already. Parents can also get WVU Alert messages by adding their contact details.

The WVU Alert system sends alerts through various channels when there’s an imminent threat to campus safety, such as in case of severe weather or emergencies.

A Campus Warning goes out via email and social media when a serious crime occurs near campus. This is important for keeping the university community informed about potential dangers.

For less urgent matters, Community Notices are shared through social media and other channels.

To stay safe, everyone is encouraged to download the LiveSafe app. It allows users to get important safety messages and report tips anonymously to the WVU Police. The app also enables friends and family to virtually walk home together.

Using both the WVU Alert system and LiveSafe maximizes safety during emergencies.
