Ulaanbaatar, April 14, 2025 – Mongolia’s Environment and Climate Change Minister, Odontuya Saldan, recently met with Corinne Pereira Da Silva, the French Ambassador to Mongolia. This meeting marked an important moment as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Mongolia and France.

During their discussion, Minister Saldan expressed gratitude for France’s support in Mongolia’s “Billions of Trees” initiative. She shared ambitions to expand joint environmental projects, focusing on climate change, green transitions, and water resources. These topics are crucial as Mongolia prepares to host the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in 2026.
COP17 is seen as a vital platform to enhance collaboration in environmental issues. It offers an opportunity for countries to share knowledge and strategies on combating desertification. In this context, Mongolia views the partnership with France as beneficial for its environmental goals.
Minister Saldan is also gearing up for the upcoming “ChangeNOW” Forum in Paris this April. This global event gathers leaders and innovators to discuss sustainable solutions for our planet. In a show of goodwill, Ambassador Da Silva invited Minister Saldan to attend the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, in June.
The focus on international cooperation highlights a growing trend in environmental activism. A recent survey showed that nearly 75% of people believe governments should prioritize climate initiatives. As nations work together, they can share resources and expertise, influencing positive changes worldwide.
In summary, this meeting not only marks a significant anniversary but also sets the stage for continued collaboration between Mongolia and France in the fight against climate change.
