Struggling to Stay Afloat: Hunter Biden Opens Up About His Financial Woes Due to Disappointing Book and Art Sales

Hunter Biden recently opened up about his struggles with money due to a decline in his book and art sales.

He mentioned that his financial situation has worsened, prompting him to tell his lawyers to request a judge to dismiss a lawsuit he filed against a former Donald Trump aide. Hunter explained that he can’t afford to continue with the legal battle. His debts are reportedly in the millions, and his income has dropped significantly since late 2023.

In a court filing in California, he disclosed that he had earned money from selling his artwork and his memoir, Beautiful Things. In the years before December 2023, he sold 27 art pieces at an average price exceeding $54,000 each. However, he has sold only one piece for $36,000 since then. His book sales also took a hit, falling from over 3,100 copies in mid-2023 to around 1,100 later that year.

Biden expressed disappointment, saying he had hoped for paid speaking engagements based on the positive feedback from his art and memoir, but those opportunities haven’t materialized.

Additionally, he faced difficulty after the home he was renting in Pacific Palisades was damaged in January fires, making it hard for him to secure a new place to live. Due to his limited funds, he plans to evaluate his other ongoing legal matters on a case-by-case basis.

Some critics have dismissed Hunter’s artwork, calling it unremarkable and claiming that the elevated prices are tied to his last name rather than artistic merit. In 2021, his artwork was priced between $75,000 and $500,000, which raised eyebrows in the art community.

In 2023, House Republicans investigated his art dealings, expressing concerns about whether he was exploiting his father’s name for financial gain, and questioned who had been purchasing his paintings.

The lawsuit Hunter filed against Garrett Ziegler, the aide who published information from his laptop, alleges that Ziegler and others illegally obtained personal data and shared it publicly. Ziegler gained attention for his vocal criticism of Biden while working in the Trump administration. He is accused of manipulating sensitive data related to Hunter Biden.

In a dramatic twist, Hunter’s wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, had a heated confrontation with Ziegler during his federal gun charges trial in June 2024.

In December 2023, Hunter’s father, former President Joe Biden, pardoned him, a move that stirred controversy. The former president stated he believed Hunter had been unfairly prosecuted and hoped that people would understand his decision from a father’s perspective.
