Sycamores Set to Host the 2025 John McNichols Invitational: Join Indiana State University Athletics in the Excitement!

Terrific Cross Country Action in Terre Haute

This Saturday, Indiana State University will host its only home cross country meet of the season: the John McNichols Invitational. Runners will hit the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, kicking off with the men’s race at 9 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 9:45 a.m. Admission is just $5, and kids under 5 get in for free.

Who’s Competing?

The Sycamores will face off against several teams, including:

  • Anderson (Ind.)
  • Miami (Ohio)
  • Rose-Hulman
  • Xavier

Both the Indiana State women’s team (ranked 9th in the Great Lakes region) and the Miami (Ohio) teams are expected to put on a strong show, alongside several other ranked squads.

A Strong Start to the Season

In their season opener at the Fighting Illini Invitational, Indiana State made waves. The women’s team placed second, with Brittney Burak breaking a program record and finishing seventh overall. She clocked in at 13:44.4, setting a high bar for her teammates.

On the men’s side, Emerson Fayman led with a solid performance, finishing 12th. This kind of early success bodes well for the upcoming races.

Fresh Faces Making Waves

The newcomers have shown they can hold their own. Freshman Sawyer DeWitt had an impressive time of 14:00.1 in the 4k, ranking her fourth in Indiana State history for that event. The energy from these new runners is crucial for the season’s momentum.

A Note on Experience

While Indiana State has a youthful roster with just one senior, their blend of returning talent and fresh energy keeps them competitive. They’ve retained strong runners, including last year’s MVC individual champion, Emma Gresham, who will be key in their drive for a strong season.

Keep an Eye on Them

The Sycamores are aiming for success this season, building on last year’s top finishes at the MVC Championships. With a combination of skilled returnees and promising newcomers, they’re generating excitement around the program.
