EUGENE, Ore. – Luke Tewalt had an impressive night at the Payton Jordan Invitational, running 13:19.82 in the 5,000 meters. This performance secured him a spot as the No. 7 all-time runner in Oregon’s history. He finished third among college athletes and 10th overall, beating his personal best by more than eight seconds.
Tewalt isn’t alone in his success. Evan Burke and Evan Bishop also set personal records, finishing with times of 13:28.84 and 13:37.81, respectively. Connor Burns made his outdoor debut, crossing the line in 13:42.78.
On the women’s side, Dalia Frias had a standout race, dropping her personal best by eight seconds with a time of 15:48.32, also finishing top-10 in Stanford. This puts her among the top runners in the Big Ten this season.
At the same event, Taylor Wiseman nearly matched her season’s best in the discus, finishing second with a throw of 49.04m. Freshman Juan Gonzalez debuted well in the same 5,000 meters, placing seventh in 13:47.23.
Looking ahead, former UO athletes Kyree King, Jadyn Mays, and Ella Clayton will represent their countries in the upcoming 2026 World Relays in Botswana. Their races will be available for streaming on Peacock.
The Ducks are gearing up for the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona. The weekend is packed with excitement, as they will also return to Hayward Field on May 8 for the Oregon Twilight, featuring an array of events and community activities.
Track and field is evolving, with more athletes achieving personal bests and breaking records. Such competitions not only showcase individual talent but also help strengthen team spirit and build a community around the sport.
