Texas Sports Betting: Major Progress Toward Regulation and What It Means for You!

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The movement to legalize sports betting in Texas is gaining traction.

Recently, State Rep. Sam Harless from Spring introduced House Joint Resolution 134. This proposal aims to let Texans vote on setting up a regulated sports betting market.

Karina Kling, a spokesperson for the Texas Sports Betting Alliance, praised the introduction of this amendment. She noted that unregulated sports betting is already occurring in the state, risking consumer safety and leading to significant tax revenue losses. Kling emphasized the importance of giving Texans a chance to decide on a strong regulatory framework, similar to what 39 other states have implemented.

It’s worth mentioning that all major professional sports teams in Texas support the effort to legalize sports betting. Polling from the University of Houston shows that about 60% of Texans are in favor of allowing online sports betting. Additionally, 74% support the establishment of destination resort casinos in the state.

If lawmakers approve the proposed amendment, it will lead to a statewide vote in November. This could help shape the future of sports betting in Texas.
