India secured a solid eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the Super Six stage of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup held in Kuala Lumpur. This victory guarantees India a spot in the semi-finals alongside Australia and South Africa. In Group 2, England and Nigeria are vying for the last semi-final spot following a rain-abandoned match between Sri Lanka and Scotland, which resulted in both teams sharing points.
Vaishanvi Sharma, India’s left-arm spinner, was instrumental in this win, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs, as she helped restrict Bangladesh to a mere 64 runs for 8 wickets. India comfortably chased down this target in just 7.1 overs.
Bangladesh batted first after rain caused a delay. They were under pressure right from the start, losing their opener Mosammat Eva on the third ball. By the end of the tenth over, they were struggling at 23 for 5. Their captain, Sumaiya Akter, managed to score a top-notch 21 runs off 29 balls at No. 7. Vaishanvi took two of her three wickets in the 17th over. Other contributors to the bowling attack included G Trisha, Shabnam Shakil, and VJ Joshitha, who took one wicket each. With this performance, Vaishanvi is now tied as the tournament’s joint-leading wicket-taker with nine wickets.
In the batting department, Trisha set the pace with a swift 40 runs, featuring eight boundaries, before being dismissed in the seventh over. India’s captain, Niki Prasad, along with Sanika Chalke, guided the team to victory with 77 balls to spare.
