LILLEHAMMER, Norway — In an exciting showdown, Kaysha Love from the U.S. and Bree Walker of Australia both clinched the gold medal in the women’s monobob event at the World Cup. They recorded a time of 1 minute, 49.14 seconds for both of their runs, leaving Laura Nolte of Germany in third place with a time of 1:49.21.
With this win, Love has now earned a total of seven medals in monobob competitions since last season. That includes three golds, three silvers, and one bronze. She has also medaled in her last four races, making this her longest active winning streak on the circuit.
Currently leading the World Cup standings is Lisa Buckwitz of Germany. She finished fifth in this race but maintains a 66-point lead over both Walker and Nolte. Buckwitz can secure her second consecutive overall title if she finishes eighth or higher in the final race on February 15.
In the men’s two-man bobsleigh, Francesco Friedrich from Germany continued his dominance, teaming up with Alexander Schuller for another victory. They edged out fellow Germans Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer, who finished second, while Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence from Britain took third. Frank del Duca and Manteo Mitchell from the U.S. finished sixth.
The title race in the two-man category will come down to Friedrich and Lochner. With a 30-point lead, Friedrich would clinch the title with a third-place finish in the final race. Lochner, on the other hand, needs to win and hope Friedrich finishes fourth or lower, which seems unlikely given Friedrich’s impressive record.
In mixed skeleton action, British athletes Amelia Coleman and Marcus Wyatt claimed victory, followed by Janine Flock and Samuel Maier from Austria in second place. The U.S. team of Mystique Ro and Austin Florian took third.
Upcoming Events:
