Tom Cruise Admits to Feeling ‘Awkward’ and ‘Embarrassed’ Over Co-Star’s Pregnancy: What Happened?

Demi Moore recently chatted about her experience while pregnant while filming A Few Good Men. During her conversation with Jia Tolentino at the New Yorker Festival, the 61-year-old actress shared that she was eight months pregnant when she started rehearsing scenes with Tom Cruise, who was 63 at the time. Moore noted that she sensed Cruise felt a bit awkward about her pregnancy.

“I think Tom was embarrassed,” Moore said. “I felt okay, but you could tell he found it a bit strange.” Despite the discomfort, she kept active, working out while pregnant with her second daughter, Scout.

Reflecting on that time, Moore questioned her own choices, asking, “What was I even trying to prove?” She recognized that expectations around pregnancy in Hollywood were not as supportive back then as they are today.

In the 1990s, pregnancy discrimination was a hot topic in Hollywood. For example, actress Hunter Tylo won a lawsuit against a production company for pregnancy-related discrimination, receiving nearly $5 million in damages. This history sheds light on the challenges actresses faced while trying to balance motherhood and their careers during that era.

Moore explained how challenging it was to juggle both roles. “Why can’t you have both?” she said about motherhood and career pressures. During her pregnancy with Scout, she remained incredibly active, even hiking on the day her water broke.

Demi, who shares Scout with ex-husband Bruce Willis, also has two older daughters, Rumer and Tallulah.

In a striking moment of vulnerability, Moore famously posed nude while pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991. “Pregnancy agrees with me,” she said at the time, challenging societal norms around beauty and body image.
