A deckhand from the reality TV show “Deadliest Catch,” Todd Meadows, tragically died after falling overboard. This incident happened on February 25, about 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed they received a report shortly after 5 p.m. that Meadows had gone overboard. Sadly, he was pulled from the water about ten minutes later but was unresponsive. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and the crew brought him back to Dutch Harbor.
Meadows, who hailed from Montesano, Washington, was new to the show, having joined last May. Capt. Rick Shelford of the Aleutian Lady described it as “the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady.” He shared how Meadows quickly became family on the boat.
“He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him,” Shelford said. Meadows was not just a crew member; he was a devoted father to three young boys. His father, Lucas Meadows, noted that Todd had been passionate about fishing since he was a child.
In the wake of this tragedy, nearly $40,000 was raised through an online fundraiser to support Meadows’ family. Those involved expressed their sorrow, stating that Todd was doing what he loved up until his last moments.
This incident highlights the dangers of crab fishing, a profession often portrayed in the show.
