Tragic Loss: Pitt Freshman Cornerback Alexander Dies in Car Accident

Pitt freshman Mason Alexander tragically lost his life in a car crash on Saturday night in Fishers, Indiana. He was just 18 years old and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Mason was a passenger in a BMW heading south on Florida Road. The driver attempted to pass another car when they swerved to avoid a collision with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the BMW veered off course, hit a tree, and caught fire.

Mason excelled as a cornerback at Hamilton Southeastern High School, situated near Indianapolis. He was recognized as an ESPN 300 recruit for the 2025 class and had just signed with Pitt in December. Mason enrolled early and was eager to begin spring practice this month.

Pitt’s head coach, Pat Narduzzi, expressed the team’s shock and sorrow over Mason’s death. “I received a call this morning that no parent, teacher, or coach ever wants to get,” he said. “Mason made a great impression on us during his short time here. He was proud to be a Panther, and we felt the same way about him. He will always be a part of our Pitt family.”

Mason’s high school teammate, Peyton Daniels, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, remembering Mason as someone who brightened every room he entered. “He brought joy and playfulness to everything and everyone,” Peyton wrote. “Mason could change the entire direction of your day with one interaction. He truly was exceptional.”
