Tragic Collision in Ybor City: Four Lives Lost
In the early hours of Saturday, a devastating incident occurred in Ybor City, Florida, where a car struck a group of pedestrians. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of four people and left eleven others injured.
Around 12:30 a.m., Tampa Police spotted two cars engaged in a speed race near Hanna and Nebraska Avenues. One car sped onto I-275, with police tracking it from the air. After exiting downtown, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued recklessly. Ultimately, the driver, 22-year-old Silas Sampson, plowed into pedestrians on 7th Avenue at 15th Street.
Three people died at the scene, while a fourth victim succumbed to injuries at a hospital. All victims were adults over 20 years old. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw condemned the act, describing it as “careless” and “reckless.”
Sampson was arrested and faces charges of vehicular homicide, with more charges likely to follow.
