Transformative Leaders to Inspire Graduates at HPU Commencement Ceremonies

High Point University is excited to welcome two remarkable speakers for its 2025 Commencement ceremonies. These events will take place on Thursday, May 1, and Saturday, May 3, 2025.

First up, actress Jane Seymour, known for her role in “Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman,” will speak at the undergraduate ceremony on Saturday. Seymour is not just a talented actress; she also became famous for her role in the James Bond film “Live and Let Die.” With over 100 films and TV shows to her credit, she is a beloved figure in Hollywood, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and shining on Broadway.

On Thursday, graduate students will hear from Raj Subramaniam, the president and CEO of FedEx. Since becoming CEO in June 2022, he has been pivotal in steering one of the largest transportation companies globally. Subramaniam has been with FedEx for over 30 years, starting as a marketing analyst. He rose through the ranks, showcasing his leadership skills at every step.

Both ceremonies are private, specifically for HPU graduates and their families. They will be streamed live at HPU Live for those who want to tune in.

This year, HPU is set to award nearly 1,700 degrees during its commencement week. Graduate Commencement occurs on Thursday, May 1, at 3:30 PM, while the undergraduate ceremony follows on Saturday, May 3, at 9 AM. Both events will be held at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center.

With more than 15,000 visitors expected, this week promises a festive atmosphere in High Point. The university celebrates the achievements of the Class of 2025 through unique traditions.

One tradition features Clark, a bald eagle, who will soar above the graduates, symbolizing freedom and new opportunities. After the ceremony, graduates will receive a special blanket to share with their mothers in honor of Mother’s Day on May 11. Other events include a senior send-off titled “Onward with Faithful Courage” and a baccalaureate service at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, both happening on Friday, May 2.

These celebrations not only honor academic achievements but also foster a sense of community within the university and the city of High Point.
