Transforming Agriculture: Ministry of Climate Change & Environment Unveils First National Guidance Forum for Sustainable Practices

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) in the UAE recently held the first National Agricultural Guidance Forum. This forum focused on promoting sustainable farming practices and supporting farmers with valuable insights and resources. It took place during the Emirates Agriculture Conference and Exhibition 2025 in Al Ain, showcasing the commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector.

Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, an official at MOCCAE, highlighted the event’s importance, noting that the agriculture sector is crucial for food security and development in the UAE. He emphasized the need for farmers to access new techniques and technologies to enhance their skills and improve their practices.

The forum featured discussions on various topics, including the empowerment of farmers and the significant role women play in agriculture. Dr. Waleed Abouel Hassan from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) noted that supporting agricultural guidance is vital for sustainable practices, especially in light of climate challenges facing the industry.

One notable session included success stories of farmers who transformed challenges into opportunities with effective support. Panelists shared real-life examples of how guidance can lead to better farming outcomes.

Additionally, a session dedicated to the role of Emirati women in agriculture discussed the increasing opportunities for women in the field. Experts addressed barriers and highlighted pathways for professional growth, showcasing the shift toward a more inclusive agricultural workforce.

This forum aligns with the goals of the UAE’s “Plant the Emirates” initiative, which aims to increase green spaces across the country. The event brought together over 22 government entities and numerous private companies, along with university research contributions, all focused on enhancing agricultural practices.

In recent years, the UAE has seen a push towards using technology in farming, including drone technology and smart irrigation systems. According to a recent report, the adoption of these innovations can improve crop yield by 20-30%, proving that modernization is key to addressing future food demands.

The National Agricultural Guidance Forum is just one step toward empowering farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices in the UAE. By bridging the gap between knowledge and practical application, these initiatives are paving the way for a more resilient and innovative agricultural sector.
