Transforming Futures: JWCC Unveils $1.5 Million Renovation for Cutting-Edge Science and Technology Program

QUINCY (WGEM) – Exciting changes are coming to a local college focused on science and technology. Plans are moving quickly to enhance the facilities and create a better learning environment.

On Monday, the John Wood Community College Board of Trustees held a special meeting to discuss these upgrades. There’s been a noticeable increase in enrollment for the science and technology program, with 65 more students joining. This jump means more room is needed.

President Bryan Renfro explained that the current facilities, built in 1999, are outdated. “We’re aiming to give the spaces a fresh look and feel,” he said. “It’s important for our faculty and students to have a vibrant environment that encourages collaboration.”

The plan is to renovate during the summer, so students will return to a modern facility ready for Fall 2025. The board has approved over $1.5 million for this upgrade, which is a significant step forward.

These improvements will benefit various programs, including nursing, surgical tech, and STEM fields like engineering and life sciences. Renfro noted that even the bathrooms will receive updates, enhancing the overall experience for everyone.

In the past four years, the science and tech building has seen enhancements for computer science, graphic design, and student collaboration, setting a strong foundation for this future development.
