Transforming Healthcare: Eric Rock, CEO of Percipio Health, Pioneers Innovations Beyond Remote Patient Monitoring

Eric Rock has traveled an interesting path in his career. He is the CEO and co-founder of Percipio Health, a company that focuses on patient health monitoring through smartphone apps. In a recent podcast episode of Healthy Bottom Line, he shared insights about his journey and the innovative work at Percipio.

Before Percipio, Rock made a name for himself in the tech world. He founded ProHost, the first restaurant table reservation system, which was later acquired by OpenTable. He then moved into healthcare, establishing MEDHOST, which created a touchscreen medical record system used in many emergency departments. His next venture, Vivify Health, focused on digital health solutions and was acquired by Optum.

At Percipio Health, Rock’s team uses an app that leverages the smartphone’s camera for face scans, allowing patients to monitor vital signs like blood pressure and respiratory rate. “This is the first-ever opportunity to represent scalable care to an entire population,” he stated. The goal is to provide health risk assessments to those most in need.

Rock believes this approach opens up a new market. He described it as a blend of population health management and remote patient monitoring. “This isn’t just a wellness platform,” he explained. “It’s designed to help those who have been underserved.”

Recent statistics highlight the importance of such solutions. According to a 2023 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have chronic conditions, making proactive health monitoring crucial. This underscores Rock’s mission to serve populations at risk and avoid costly hospital visits.

Rock also emphasized that while Percipio utilizes AI, it is meant to assist rather than replace clinicians. “We’re not using AI in a way that’s replacing clinicians at all. We’re simply augmenting them,” he clarified, highlighting a strong governance process.

His journey shows how experiences from different fields can enrich innovations in healthcare. By drawing parallels between restaurant efficiency and healthcare operations, Rock demonstrates the value of fresh perspectives in solving complex industry challenges.

As healthcare evolves, patient-centered technologies like those offered by Percipio Health could play a key role in keeping communities healthy and empowered.
