Transforming Lives: How Tampa Family Health Centers Support Hundreds of Families in Need

TAMPA, Fla. — The holiday spirit came alive early for many families in the area. Tampa Family Health Centers held its third annual holiday drive, offering much-needed support to those navigating tough times.

This year, 300 families received crucial holiday assistance, and another 1,100 families are set to benefit in the coming weeks. The demand for help has noticeably increased compared to last year, when 150 families were served. Sherry Hoback, the center’s president and CEO, highlighted the growing need: “With inflation and rising housing costs, many families are struggling more than ever, not just with healthcare.”

Many attendees found joy in the event. Justina McKinley expressed her gratitude as she and her family received food, clothing, and other essentials. “A lot of people are going through financial hardship right now. This is really helping the community,” she said.

Volunteers also played a big role. Andrea Wolfe shared her feelings about giving back, saying, “I’ve been blessed with my family, and giving back is the best way to show gratitude.” Their hard work made it possible for families to leave with their hands full.

The impact of events like this is significant. According to a recent survey from the U.S. Census Bureau, around 1 in 4 households reported experiencing some financial strain due to rising costs, especially as the holiday season approaches. This drive not only offers tangible goods but also brings hope and community support during difficult times.

As families continue to come together, whether receiving help or lending a hand, it’s clear that initiatives like the Tampa Family Health Center’s holiday drive are vital for community strength and resilience.
