Travis Kelce Hit with $11K Fine for Taunting in AFC Title Game: What Happened on That Controversial Play?

During last week’s AFC Championship game, Travis Kelce faced some drama, leading to a fine from the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end received an $11,255 penalty for taunting after the game ended in a nail-biting 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills. This was Kelce’s second fine of the season; earlier, he was penalized $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct in Week 17.

The incident happened at the end of the first half. After a touchdown run by Patrick Mahomes, Kelce exchanged words with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Things heated up when Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips came over and head-butted Kelce in the helmet, resulting in a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness against Phillips. He also faced a fine of $6,722 for his actions.

In addition to the fines for Kelce and Phillips, Bills safety Matt Milano was also penalized $11,255 for unnecessary roughness during the game’s fourth quarter.

Kelce ended the game with just two catches for 19 yards on four targets. While the clash between Kelce and Phillips grabbed the headlines, the officiating was another hot topic, as it often is for the Chiefs. Players, including some linebackers, seem unfazed by the controversies surrounding the officiating.
