Students from Troy University’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion recently showcased their skills at the Southeast American College of Sports Medicine (SEACSM) Annual Meeting. Competing against 31 other universities, TROY’s team proudly claimed second place, marking the best finish in the university’s history for this event.

The team, playfully called “The Ashlyn’s,” included Ashlyn Copland, Ashlyn Barnett, and Ashlyn Shaver. They came together for this competition, which was a fun opportunity to test their knowledge. With a mix of academic savvy and smart strategy, they navigated the competition successfully.
According to Copland, the format was thrilling. “There were three rounds, and each question was worth different points—like Jeopardy,” she said. Shaver shared that the first round was challenging as they were still getting used to the game, but by the second round, they really found their groove.
Despite many other teams preparing for months, the three Ashlyns felt proud of the strong foundation their program provided. They relied on what they learned in class to help them excel. The final round featured a single question that helped them secure the impressive second place.
Barnett emphasized the impact of their education, stating, “We wouldn’t have succeeded without the knowledge from our professors and coursework. This experience shows we are being prepared to thrive both as students and professionals.”
Their achievement highlights the quality education at Troy University, demonstrating how well they equip students in exercise science for future challenges.
