WASHINGTON (AP) — The CIA is set to let go of some junior officers as part of changes to the federal government. This follows President Donald Trump’s plans to reorganize how the government operates.
A spokesperson from the agency mentioned that personnel hired in the last two years will be reviewed. Officers who have behavioral issues or don’t fit well with the CIA’s demands will be let go. It’s important to note that not everyone can handle the stresses of intelligence work.
These layoffs are part of larger staff reductions across various federal agencies due to efforts by Trump and businessman Elon Musk. While some agencies, like the U.S. Agency for International Development, have faced major cuts, intelligence agencies are also experiencing some job losses, though not as drastic.
Earlier this year, the CIA offered buyouts to certain employees, although the exact number who accepted has not been disclosed. New CIA Director John Ratcliffe has committed to revamping the agency, emphasizing a return to traditional methods of gathering intelligence, often through human sources.
The CIA and similar agencies have been crucial in providing intelligence to Ukraine regarding Russian military strategies. Recently, Ratcliffe stated that intelligence sharing with Ukraine has been paused but indicated that this could change in the future.
