Two Suspects Arrested for Attempts to Steal Lingerie at University Village

Three individuals were arrested by Seattle police after two attempts to steal lingerie at University Village.

In the first incident, officers caught two women, aged 34 and 28, trying to shoplift from a Victoria’s Secret store on Tuesday evening. During the arrest, one of the women was found with a fixed-blade knife, brass knuckles, and a lockpick kit. Although they were identified, the police released them but will suggest criminal charges to the city attorney’s office.

Later that evening, store security spotted two men attempting another theft. One of the men, a 28-year-old with a history of assault and robbery, was apprehended. The other suspect managed to escape after they both discarded stolen items while fleeing through the parking lot.

The arrested man is now facing potential charges for organized retail theft and obstructing an officer. In total, the police recovered approximately $759 worth of stolen goods. The search for the second suspect continues, and the case is now with the General Investigations Unit.

This incident sheds light on the broader issue of retail theft, which is seeing a rise in many urban areas. According to a recent report by the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention, nearly 1 in 11 Americans have shoplifted in their lifetime. With the rise in theft incidents, businesses are increasingly investing in loss prevention strategies.

As communities deal with the impact of retail crime, it remains essential to find ways to balance safety and support for those struggling economically, making this a complex societal issue.
