PHILADELPHIA is buzzing with excitement for the Super Bowl. Fans are eager for a big win, and local restaurants are joining in the fun with a lighthearted food rivalry against Kansas City favorites.
One standout is Pat’s King Of Steaks, a Philly icon. They serve delicious ribeye steak imported from Australia. “The marbling looks gorgeous, and you can hear that sizzle as soon as it hits the grill,” says Frank E. Oliveri, a member of the Pat’s family. This tasty steak is topped with fried onions and CheezWhiz, all packed into a fresh Aversa roll. The recipe has been around since 1930, straight from Uncle Pat’s hotdog stand.
Pat’s is ready to compete with Joe’s Kansas City BBQ. “If we lose—and I highly doubt that!—we’ll send them cheesesteaks for their Firehouse,” Oliveri joked. Joe’s is known for its smoky meats and playful trash talk. Eric Tadda, from Joe’s, asserts, “I think it’s just our time. After we win three in a row, maybe we’ll let someone else have a turn.”
If the Eagles take the championship, Philadelphia firefighters are set to enjoy Joe’s famous 16-hour smoked brisket. The Z-Man sandwich, featuring sliced brisket, provolone cheese, and two onion rings on a Kaiser bun, is sure to impress.
Down in South Philadelphia, Dante & Luigi’s also has a friendly wager. Connie LaRussa, from the restaurant, shared, “It’s a very friendly competition until Sunday.” They are betting on their homemade Italian Veal Shank, Ossobuco. LaRussa explains, “We sauté the veal in flour, olive oil, and butter, then add lots of vegetables.”
Meanwhile, V’s Italian Ristorante in Kansas City is ready to join the fun. Greg Hunsucker from V’s raves about their dish, saying, “The demi-glaze is so decadent. By the time it’s done, the meat is falling off the bone. It’s to die for!”
