Unexpected Moves: How the Delay of One UI 7 is Changing Samsung’s Strategy

Samsung is taking longer than usual to release the One UI 7.0 update. Because of these delays, the company is considering a bold move: skipping directly to One UI 8.0 after the release of One UI 7.0, bypassing One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1.

Samsung may skip One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1 to launch One UI 8.0

Recently, a popular tipster named Ice Universe revealed that Samsung might cancel the One UI 7.1 update. This suggests that the company could release One UI 8.0 right after One UI 7.0.

This change likely means that the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and a dual-folding device will come with either One UI 7.0 or One UI 8.0, as One UI 7.1.1 has reportedly been scrapped.

Google’s plan to release Android 16 earlier this year may have impacted Samsung’s timeline. This could mean Samsung decided to focus on One UI 8.0 instead of juggling multiple updates. If things go as planned, One UI 8.0 might be available in the second half of the year.

One UI 7.0 made its debut with the Galaxy S25 series last month. It has also found its way to some of Samsung’s latest mid-range devices, such as the Galaxy M06 5G and Galaxy A36.

However, fans of last year’s flagship models, like the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, are still waiting for the update.

More Galaxy phones may join the One UI 7.0 Beta Program

Rumor has it that Samsung might open the One UI 7.0 Beta Program to more devices soon. This could include the Galaxy S23, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6, and A55.

The stable One UI 7.0 update could start rolling out to select Galaxy devices by April 2025.
