Unforgettable Day: Mother and Her Three Daughters Celebrate Graduation Together at Georgia State University

ATLANTA, Ga. – Graduation is a special time for families, but for the Lee family at Georgia State University, it’s even more remarkable. On May 7, Quila Lee and her three daughters—Rakiya, 31, and twins Kalaya and Kamiya, 22—will all earn their degrees together.

Quila, a dedicated seventh-grade teacher at G.P. Babb Middle School, will receive her Master of Arts in Teaching. Rakiya is set to graduate with a Master’s in Public Administration, while both Kalaya and Kamiya will earn degrees in Biology.

This moment is a full-circle celebration. Back in 2003, Quila was pursuing her Master’s when she found out she was expecting twins. For a while, it felt like her dreams might come to a halt. But with the help of her community, she pushed through. The twins’ birth didn’t stop her; she graduated with them in attendance, alongside then nine-year-old Rakiya.

“Twenty-two years ago, I never imagined we would all graduate together,” Quila said. "As a mother, I couldn’t be prouder."

Looking ahead, Rakiya is exploring law school, while Kamiya plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health and Kalaya aims to become a veterinarian. On her part, Quila loves teaching but isn’t finished learning. A doctoral program might be next on her list.

This graduation isn’t just a personal triumph; it reflects a growing trend in education. More families are celebrating multiple graduates at once. A recent report from the National Center for Education Statistics noted that familial connections in higher education can significantly impact students’ success and degree completion.

Graduation day symbolizes hard work, resilience, and family pride. For the Lee family, it’s a beautiful reminder that dreams can be achieved with determination and support.
