Stephen Curry had an unforgettable night on Thursday, proving once again why he’s a superstar in the NBA. Playing against the Orlando Magic, he scored an impressive 56 points and hit 12 three-pointers, both season highs. He came close to breaking his former teammate Klay Thompson’s record of 14 three-pointers in a game.
Among his highlights was a spectacular buzzer-beater from well beyond the three-point line to cap off the first half. Curry shot 16-for-25 overall and 9-for-21 from beyond the arc, along with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, all contributing to the Warriors’ 121-115 victory.
Curry started slow, with just five points early in the second quarter as the Magic built a 17-point lead. But by the end of that quarter, he exploded for 21 points. He then led the Warriors on a dominating 30-9 run after halftime, giving them a lead they would not give up.
This performance was historic for Curry. It marked his 45th career game with at least nine three-pointers—more than any other player combined. He also registered his ninth game scoring over 50 points since turning 30, the most in NBA history.
After the game, Curry wanted to keep the ball as a memento, giving it to his mother who was watching from their home state. This win was also significant for the Warriors as it extended their winning streak to five games and marked their seventh victory in eight games with Jimmy Butler in the lineup. While Butler only scored five points, he provided seven assists and offered defensive support.
Curry’s shooting made a big difference, allowing the Warriors to thrive. Looking ahead, they have upcoming games against the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets, both of which they hope will add to their winning streak before facing a challenging New York Knicks team on March 4.
