By 9:45 p.m., about 31% of their flights were delayed, and 1% had been canceled, according to data from FlightAware.

United assured passengers, “We are working to get them to their destinations after this disruption.” They emphasized that the outage had no connection to recent cybersecurity concerns facing the airline industry.

Her sister Jessica, stuck in Denver, said, “It’s been pretty rough over here. We’ve been stuck for about two hours on a plane with little direction.” She described the uncomfortable conditions due to low air conditioning.

Airports across major cities like Chicago, Denver, and Newark were affected, leading to ground stops initiated by United at around 7:30 p.m.
