University of Missouri Men’s Golf Earns Third Place at Moraine Intercollegiate: A Strong Performance Unveiled!

The Mizzou men’s golf team had a strong showing at the Moraine Intercollegiate, finishing third out of 14 teams in Ohio. The team scored 836, which is 16 under par. They were just one stroke shy of Illinois, ranked eighth in the country, who finished second with a score of 835. Xavier took first place with a score of 832.

This performance marks the 11th-best 54-hole score in Mizzou’s history. It’s the best the team has done since a tournament in March 2023, where they scored 830.

Head coach Glen Millican was pleased with the results. “It was a good weekend for our guys,” he said. Two Tigers placed in the top 10, and Bradley Mulder made the top 15, which put the team in a good spot throughout the tournament.

Junior Veikka Viskari and sophomore Trent Mierl both tied for seventh with a score of -6. Viskari had an outstanding first round, scoring a personal best of 62 and racking up 15 birdies over the tournament. He has been a standout for the team this season, leading or tying for the lead in every tournament.

Mierl also performed impressively, finishing under par in all three rounds, a running streak for him. He expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I stayed really patient and stuck to my process,” highlighting the team’s overall strong performance.

Bradley Mulder also had a notable tournament, finishing 13th with a score of -4. This was his best finish in Division I golf so far, with 13 birdies across three rounds.

Rounding out the team, senior Virgilio Paz took 38th place, and freshman Reese Roberts finished 55th.

Next, the Tigers will shift their focus to The Clerico tournament on October 27. As they prepare, the lessons learned at Moraine will be crucial in maintaining their competitive edge.
