Unlock the Power of Google’s New AI Agents: Transform Your Search Experience Beyond the Basics | TechCrunch

At the Google I/O 2026 keynote, the company unveiled exciting new features that aim to make searching smarter. Users can now create and manage AI agents tailored to their interests. This marks a shift towards “agentic AI”—technology that can act on its own, rather than just responding to single questions.

Traditional search engines wait for users to ask a question. In contrast, Google’s new information agents will run continuously in the background, keeping you updated on topics you care about without the need to search repeatedly.

Instead of just providing a list of links, these agents can compare information from various sources, explain its relevance, and give useful insights. Think of them as a modern upgrade to Google Alerts, which launched in 2003. But these new agents offer much more than simple notifications.

For example, if you’re interested in the stock market, you could set up an agent to follow specific companies or trends. It would monitor the market all day, summarize earnings reports, and alert you about significant changes—much like having a personalized financial advisor.

These agents can also help in everyday life, like tracking flight prices, monitoring sports events, or keeping up with weather changes.

To get started, users can activate AI Mode in Search and give prompts. For instance, “Keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.’” When there’s new information, you’ll receive a push notification, and you can easily manage your tracked topics in your AI Mode history.

These information agents will roll out this summer for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with plans to expand to other regions later.

Google also revealed a major redesign of Search itself. The new “intelligent search box” is the biggest change in over 25 years. It supports longer, conversational queries and features an AI-powered suggestion system, making it easier for users to find exactly what they’re looking for.

In today’s fast-paced world, staying updated matters more than ever. According to a survey by Pew Research, about 60% of people feel overwhelmed by the amount of information they receive daily. Google’s new AI agents aim to combat that by simplifying how we gather and interact with information.

The changes Google is rolling out could significantly enhance our daily lives, making information more personalized and accessible. It’s a fascinating step towards a future where technology not only responds but anticipates our needs.
