Two community groups in Limerick have each received €10,000 in grants as part of a new government program aimed at climate action. The Kilcornan Community Council and the Killeedy Eco Park Group were selected from 96 applicants across Ireland. These grants, totaling €500,000, were announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Darragh O’Brien, and are intended to support community engagement initiatives focused on climate issues.
The funding will fund various workshops and biodiversity hubs, benefiting an estimated 30,000 people nationwide. Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Niall Collins TD, praised the initiative. He noted that the workshops in Kilcornan will gather community opinions and ideas to foster positive climate action, ensuring that local voices are heard.
In addition, the Killeedy Eco Park Group aims to establish a community hub for environmental initiatives. Their plans include educational programs focused on conservation, biodiversity, tree planting, composting, and renewable energy.
