ADNOC Gas has teamed up with Baker Hughes to launch Levidian’s LOOP technology at the Habshan gas processing plant in the UAE.

This is the first time Levidian’s technology has been used at an operational gas plant.

What does it do? LOOP extracts carbon from methane, the main ingredient in natural gas, and turns it into graphene.

Graphene is a game-changer. It can improve electric vehicle batteries, enhance solar panels, and make materials like concrete and tyres stronger and more durable.

The LOOP unit produces over one tonne of graphene and hydrogen each year. Future setups could produce 15 tonnes annually.

Mohamed Al Hashemi, ADNOC Gas’s chief operations officer, highlighted its importance, stating, “With this technology, we’re changing methane into valuable graphene and clean hydrogen. It’s all about sustainability and supporting the UAE’s industrial growth.”

Baker Hughes’s Alessandro Bresciani echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how teamwork fosters innovation in decarbonization technologies.

The graphene developed at Habshan will be reviewed by ADNOC’s technology team for various uses.
