But what was in the letter that Starmer brought to Trump?

As Starmer handed the letter to Trump in the Oval Office, he mentioned it contained an invitation for an “unprecedented” second state visit.

Starmer expressed his excitement by saying, “This is really special. This has never happened before.” He emphasized the strength of the relationship between the UK and the US, saying, “The last state visit was a tremendous success. His Majesty the King wants to make this even better than that. So, this is truly historic.”

Trump, upon receiving the letter, praised King Charles, calling him “a great, great gentleman.” He admired the King’s “beautiful” signature and described him as “a beautiful man. A wonderful man.” Trump noted, “I’ve gotten to know him very well, actually.”

The letter touched on various global challenges and highlighted the important roles both countries play in upholding shared values. Charles reminisced about Trump’s past visits to the UK, offering flexible options for future meetings that would be convenient for Trump.

In a personal touch, Charles recalled their plans for Trump to visit Dumfries House in Scotland, which was halted by the pandemic. He expressed his hope that Trump might be able to visit during his leisure time in Scotland, where Trump’s golf resort in Turnberry is located just about 30 miles from Dumfries House.

Charles also mentioned, “There is much on both Estates which I think you might find interesting, particularly as my Foundation at Dumfries House provides hospitality skills training for young people who often end up as staff in your own establishments!”

The King closed the letter by inviting Trump to discuss important mutual interests and planning a historic second state visit. He expressed hope that their collaboration would strengthen the special relationship between the UK and the US.
