Maryland Made’s 2025 Leadership Academy has wrapped up, and it was a big hit! Over five weeks, 30 student-athletes from 13 different varsity sports came together for enriching sessions focused on building their leadership skills.

This Academy was designed to create a solid foundation for future leaders. It helps student-athletes tackle the tricky challenges they’ll face in leadership roles. By looking at various leadership styles, they learned how to assemble strong teams, drive change, manage crises, and foster a culture of excellence.

Each week, the participants dived into key topics like Leadership and Values, Emotional Intelligence, and Inclusive Communication. They even took the Real Colors Personality Type Test, which helped them understand themselves and others better. This curriculum equips them for leadership positions in their teams and beyond.

Feedback from participants highlights the program’s impact. Many shared how the Academy boosted their confidence and skills, preparing them for future roles in their teams and careers.

In a recent survey of former participants, 85% said the Leadership Academy helped them navigate leadership challenges more effectively. Many mentioned feeling more equipped to handle conflicts and inspire their teammates.

Research shows that emotional intelligence is a critical skill in leadership today. According to a study by Forbes, leaders with high emotional awareness can improve team performance by up to 60%. This skill was a significant focus in the Maryland Made program and will undoubtedly benefit the athletes as they move forward in their careers.

As society grows more complex, programs like the Leadership Academy are vital for developing young leaders. They not only gain knowledge but also build invaluable connections with peers. In a world where teamwork and collaboration are essential, these experiences can make all the difference.

The Maryland Made Leadership Academy is more than just a program; it’s a stepping stone for future leaders ready to make a change.
