Google has announced early access to its new AI Mode for Google One AI Premium subscribers.
Access
You can join the Search Labs waitlist. However, access is rolling out first to paying subscribers. Keep an eye on your email for updates.
In Search, look for the “AI Mode” button in the filter carousel to switch from regular results to the new experience.
For web users, you can head directly to google.com/aimode. Here, you’ll find a chatbot-style interface with an “Ask AI Mode” field. A fun detail is that the text cursor cycles through Google’s four colors, seen on both web and mobile.
On mobile, the AI Mode button is located below the Search bar in the Home tab, next to the Google Lens and Sound Search shortcuts. This part isn’t available on Android just yet, but it’s on its way.
In the upper corner, there’s an “AI Mode history” button, showing your past queries and allowing you to revisit those searches.
Results
Throughout this experience, you’ll enjoy lively blue, red, yellow, and green animations while you wait for results, especially when using voice input.
Your query sits at the top, and it feels different not having a search bar above it, especially if you’re used to Google Search for a long time. Mobile displays a carousel of sources at the top and bottom, while on the web, it appears as a card on the right. Plus, most response lines feature a link icon.
AI Mode accepts both text and voice input but only shows text results. Camera input is not yet available. However, Google plans to introduce more features like visual responses with images and videos, improved formatting, and new content access methods soon.
The interface currently feels basic, with Google promising rapid updates based on user feedback as they test.
