This step is part of a strategy to prepare for the upcoming standalone ESPN streaming service set to launch this fall. Iger hinted that more details about pricing and launch dates will be revealed soon. He emphasized that the new service aims to deliver ESPN in a way that’s convenient for consumers.

The rise of streaming services is also tied to broader trends in the entertainment industry. According to recent data, streaming accounts for over 80% of all U.S. television viewing—an increase from just 20% five years ago. This shift reflects changing consumer preferences as viewers favor on-demand content.
