UNMC May Commencement 2023: Inspiring Graduates to ‘Aim for Great Things’

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) recently celebrated its commencement ceremonies from May 7-9 at Baxter Arena in Omaha and across the state.

Dr. James Armitage, a graduate and long-time faculty member, received the prestigious J.G. Elliott Award. Dr. James Roudebush, another alum, was honored with an honorary Doctor of Science degree for his contributions to health care.

Overall, UNMC awarded over 1,000 degrees this year. H. Dele Davies, the Interim Chancellor, offered inspiring words to the graduates: “Resilience in the face of uncertainty is the key ingredient to success. Setbacks can be opportunities for growth. Aim high and keep moving forward.”

This year’s ceremonies highlighted not just academic accomplishments but the importance of perseverance. A recent report from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) shows that resilience is increasingly important in healthcare roles, where professionals face challenges daily.

Graduates left the stage with pride, holding up their degrees and ready to tackle the next chapter. Social media buzzed with excited messages and photos, capturing their joy. A growing trend on platforms like Twitter and Instagram showcases graduation moments, where new grads share their journeys using hashtags like #GradLife and #UNMCGrad.
